Rabbi Jonathan Porath first met Elie Wiesel over 48 years ago, and they continued a lifetime connection. Inspired by reading Wiesel's epic The Jews of Silence, Rabbi Porath traveled to Moscow for Simchat Torah in 1968, and dedicated his life's work to Soviet and Russian Jews. As a staff member of the Joint Distribution Committee's Russian Department, he visited Russia 175 times.
